Cashier Hall, Goetheanum (designed by Winfried Reindl, 1983) |
The sculpted walls of the Cashier Hall which is located on the ground floor of the Goetheanum between the western staircase and the bookshop, inspired me to a series of 3 related VRML models. The first one simulates the space as it is. The second model is animated and starts with a stereotype of a cashier hall as I remember them from the 60s: a big, empty hall with small windows equally spaced along one wall - the model eventually morphs into the much more humane Reindl version. The third model is basically the same as the second one, but an additional 'Stop' button lets you stop the morph process at any stage.

Click on the START button and watch the walls slowly bulge into the final shape of the cashier hall. Whilst it is possible to navigate within the model during the morph process, collision detection works only for the moving avatar and not for the moving walls and there is a danger of ending up outside the model.
